Dating game guidelines offered
Selection, actions and maintenance tips
"I think dating is a part of everyone's life, but in college
especially, it makes dating that much harder", said Laurenn Rowland,
Ph.D., of Wayne State University's Counseling and Psychological Services
(CAPS).
And today, Rowland leads two sessions of "The Dating Game:
Selection, Action, and Maintenance Tips," during which she will
discuss the so-called "Dating Game" with WSU students.
The workshop is aimed toward students with concerns and who are
facing challenges in the dating world.
The first of Rowland's three topics will cover how to approach someone,
how to ask for a date and, everyone's favorite, coping with rejection,
she said.
Freshman and South Hall resident Mutebi Gardner believes it's one
of the hardest challenges for a guy.
"When you go up to a girl expecting a number," he said,
"you leave with only a rejection instead."
Rowland will also talk about how to deal with typical challenges
in a relationship, such as communication, becoming exclusive and sexual
decisions.
Freshman, Satasha Ford said "trust" is yet another challenge
for relationships.
"When you're in college there is so much temptation,"
she said, "it seems like guys are always curious and it's hard
to be in a serious relationship in college."
Rowland will finish the workshop with a look at the latest trend
in dating: technology and how to handle meeting people over the Internet.
The workshops are at 2 p.m. in the Student Center, Room 584 and
at 6 p.m. in the South Residence Hall living room on the first floor.
