singles Stories support value of change
In last week's column, I encouraged readers to make
changes to become winners in dating and relationships. I'd like to share
two unsolicited success stories of people who made changes.
The first story was sent by a man who asked not to
be identified. He told me he was nearly 50 when he decided to spend
several thousand dollars on cosmetic dentistry.
"It gave me the movie-star smile I always wanted,
and that changed everything. I approached social situations with a positive
attitude, and the attractive smile helped me a lot.
"When I ran into a woman I knew on a casual basis,
I decided to ask her out. I figured it wasn't likely to turn into anything
as there were so many differences. We were of different religious faiths.
She had never married, while I was the divorced father of grown children
and had a lot of old baggage. She gave me a chance, and I did the same.
We have been married for several years and have a beautiful life. I
thought I was too old to start over but found out differently."
Michele's letter begins, "I'm sure you will remember
me from your seminar in October last year near Erie, Pa. I had just
met Patrick the night before as a blind date fix-up.
"I used all of your skills. We waited for more
than two months to have a sexual relationship. It was fun for both of
us to 'make out on the couch' -- we still talk about it.
"He asked about books to read. I told him if he
really wanted to know me to read 'Mars & Venus on A Date' (Harper
Collins, $25) and also a little later I asked him to read your book,
'Take Heart!' (Connections, $9.95).
"He asked me to marry him six months into the
relationship. We have been dating a year and are getting married on
April 2. Patrick is wonderful and kind. We have great physical chemistry
plus a real emotional connection. We really know how to communicate.
We are very much in love. I treasure your weekend seminar. It couldn't
have come at a better time."
Are there changes you would like to make in your attitude,
behavior or appearance? Let these stories encourage you to begin to
make them.
